Location: Milky Way / The Phoenix Massing / Tassrah System
Barzakh is a prison station owned and operated by the mercenary outfit known as the Vengeful Spirits. It houses prisoners of all stripes, earned in many unsavory ways by the corporation. It suffers from massive overcrowding and many violations of galactic safety laws, however, no one bats an eye because it is located in the Terminus.
History[]
Constructed as a deep space outpost by the turians before the First Contact War, it was originally placed to serve as a research post to the nearby planet Aite, and also as a preventative measure, hoping to dissuade more unlikeable types from settling the golden world. After the planet had been discovered as an unsuitable candidate for Hierarchy colonization due to distance and protection reasons, the station was left as a sole outpost of research and order in the lawless Terminus. In the mid-22nd century, the station was sold to the Vengeful Spirits mercenary outfit.
The mercs swept in and retrofitted the station with low-tech security equipment and a simple cell system, with each individual unit being able to be purged directly into the vacuum if necessary. By early 2154, the station was fully operational and ready for prisoners. Prisoners poured in and within a decade the station was at the recommended maximum capacity for its size. Of course, that didn't stop the mercs from packing it even tighter. As of 2182, the station allegedly houses over 10,000 criminals of various degrees, with a crew of nearly six hundred.
