The Melee Jet Omni Lightning - Navigated Identity Returning Hammer, more commonly referred to as a MJOLNIR Hammer, is a relic weapon utilized by the krogan during the Rachni Wars.

Description[]

The M.J.O.L.N.I.R. Technical Hammer represents compact salarian technology in weapon only really wieldable by krogan. Initially designed to assist Krogan ground forces in stunning Rachni, the weapon features unprecedented utility for a krogan melee weapon.

Featuring an inbuilt Mass Effect drive core, the weapon is capable of supplying its own power, as well as simple mass effect field manipulation. In effect, the user can lighten the weapon for swifter blows, or even weighten the weapon for strong overhead slams.

In a more advanced usage of its functions, the weapon can actually be thrown, using an anti-gravity mass effect field to retain a true trajectory regardless of planetary gravity. Miniature jet boosters can heighten melee blows, or even allow a thrown hammer to hit with even more force. An inbuilt autopilot VI can be utilized to guide the flight of the hammer, allowing it to arc towards or away from targets.

Further utilizing the inbuilt drive core, the weapon can be recalled to the users Omni-tool, a useful utility for Rachni surprise attacks, being disarmed in melee combat, or after throwing such a hefty weapon. In some instances, the user can greatly increase the mass of the hammer to prevent it from being moved, making it unable to be used by anyone other than the biometrically assigned user.

To elevate the weapon above standard options, the inbuilt drive core accumulates enough power to sustain electrical based tech abilities. Users can frequently unleash electrical smashes or the Overload application, designed to allow for greater crowd control and collateral damage, essentially like a second Omni-tool.

Such a weapon would have seen constant use by the krogan during the Rebellions if it wasn’t for the efforts of equally savvy STG and Asari Huntresses. The hammer’s drive core effectively made it a possible bomb, which special forces could easily sabotage to detonate in mid-flight, or the users hands. In rare cases, these hammers have even been caught and repurposed, before, during or after a battle, when a third party reverses biometric control. Due to the huge technical flaw that was not exploited by the Rachni, the weapon's previous fame became infamy, especially as the krogan could scarcely afford to maintain a relatively expensive and intricate weapon.

Nowadays, antiques of this weapon often find themselves in Turian or Salarian weapon collections. Reproduction runs surface from time to time, but these models rarely enter combat scenarios between civilised combatants. Instead, the weapon is mostly favored by krogan militia or hunters, the former using it for incapacitation, and the later using it for live capture.
